The strike was embittered by an. attempt to prevent the strikers, obtaining provisions. The railway company, without the sanction, of the civil authorities, called for troops, and the dispute culminated in an. affray. The German Government and the company were doing ffcheir utmost to remedy tho conditions, and a special Magistrate had been appointed to protect, both British and natives.
