Sir George Reid, speaking at Manchester, said iliat lie was glad that Imperialism was becoming something more than a delightfully-sounding phrase. Australia had started in a. race fur prosperity and greatness, but the stronger and richer the ambitious of lier people became the more their loyalty to the Homeland extended. It was the greatest mistake to say that England was decadent, but she would be better with a little bit of compulsory military service in the schools.
