ALLEGED FRAUD.

£2200 MISSING. Per Press Association. At Milton to-day before Mr Bartholomew, S.M., Gilbert Scott, formerly a clerk to the Bruce County Council, was committed for trial on charges of having received sums of £2O 0s 6d, £22 6s 3d, and £5 0s XOd, and omitting to enter them in the books, with intend to defraud the Council. It is stated that the Council has written off over £2200 in connection with the rates for 1004, 1905, 1906, and 1907. The case for the prosecution was that when accused received a cheque, a receipt might or might not be given. If one was given it was from what was practically a private receipt book, the block of which cannot be found. The cheque was then paid into the Council's account, and the prosecution suggested that the accused took funds which made the bank's account and the Council's book tally.
