SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
TIMARU MAIN. The monthly meeting of the Timaru Main Bchool committee held last evening, was attended by Messrs A. Wilson (acting-chairman), Burmcster, Stead, Radciiffe, Vogeler, and Robertson. Apologies for absence were received from the Revs. Hunt and 01phert, and Mr Pearson. The headmaster, Mr G. Dalglish, reported that there- had been an improvement in the attendance, the average for the past four weeks being 006.7 061, 007.8, and 619.8. The new infant room desks, promised by the Board a month ago were not yet to hand, and the division of the infant room had not been begun. During tlio month a fine flag polo had been received, and the inspectors had made their annual visit, thirty trees had been received from the Stato Nursery, and weeping willows had been donated by Mr John Shaw. Tlie school's teams had been very successful in the footbnll and hockey tournaments. The miniuture rilles and ammunition were to hand and practice would commence next term,—The report was adopted, and it was decided to thank Mr Shaw for bis donation, Mr Craigie for his action in regard to th*e question of miniature rilles, and Mr Higgins for his gift of a flag-pole. Mr Wilson reported that repairs to the asphalt in the school grounds would be completed in a few days. The secretary, Waimatsiitai committee wrote thanking the Main com-
miteo for its sympathy -regarding over- j crowding ut the Waimataitai school, j and intimated that a sub-committee had j been appointed to confer with other town committees re the water charges, j —.Messrs Hunt, Wilson, and Vogeler wore appointed to attend a conference re water charges. Information of the propused installation of a heating system in the .school was held over.—The Hoard notified, that its foreman had been instructed to improve .several of the school desks. —Mr Stead reported'on behalf of the visitors that the school was in good older. The headmaster was authorised to have the school windows attended to, and the matter of holding a garden party was left to Messrs Hunt, Wilson and the headmaster. Accounts amounting to £29 were passed for payment.
