SPAIN AND THE VATICAN. Since the prohibition of the San Sebastian demonstration the Pope has received thirteen thousand telegrams giving expression to the senders' loyalty.

THE GERMAN SOCIALISTS. . The German Socialist Party's membership is 722,830. whereof 90.000 have been recruited during the year, including 20,000 women. Forty-three thousand six hundred meetings have been held, and 23,000,000 pamphlets distributed. The imprisonments of members during the year aggregated thirtyseven years, the fines £ISOO. The contributions to the party funds for some time have amounted to £IO,OOO per month.

Received 12.18 a.m., August loth. THE LLOYD ESTATE. LONDON, August 14. Mr Arthur Lloyd of the "Daily Chronicle" left estate valued at £194,129. He made considerable bequests to newspaper charities, and the residue of £120,000 to hospitals and the purchase of open spaces.
