(2) No definite standard has been set out by headquarters. District commanders were instructed to put applicants through a gem raj military test ;,s to their fitness fur the position. On the completion of such examination the Board were to submit the names of the most suitable for further final selection (and these have been received from all districts except Otago). Those . finally selected will be on probation for six months and will go through a refresher course before being allocated to their areas. (3, All tho officers on the Hoards arc experienced officers, and each applicant was reported on individually by officers commanding districts before being submitted to the Selection Board. (-1) It is not considered necessary to sot up a standard for each district, as the- selected candidates will be the best from each district and will be required to pass a standard examination set out by headquarters", and be favourably renorted on before the final appointment is confirmed.
