«&>.. I AYAIMATE HUNT STEEPLECHASES. The Waimate Hunt held their annual cross-country races at Wainoiio last Thursday, m fine weather, mid n large crowd of onlookers found an excellent point of \*>w on the Wainono Downs. The course had been selected by Mr E. C. Studholme, who. acted as starter and explained the course to the competitiora. The following were the results: — HEAVY-WEIGHTS, 13st. First,, Major Lindsay's silver cup value sgns, seconff, Mr E. C. Studholme's trophyvalue 2gns:—Mr P. A. Elworthy's Liberty 1, Dr C. E. Thomas' Puzzler 2, Mr L. Parkinson's Napoleon 3, Mr V. Studholme's Dingo 4. All ownersup. Napoleon led off, but fell, and Liberty, going steadilv, won easilv. LIGHT-WEIGHTS, 'll'.st 71b.—Trophies value ogns and 2gns, presented by Mr C. S. Forbes:—Mr J. S. MoirByres' Uncle Tom 1, Mr A. Rattray's Otekaike 2. Mr G. Balfour's Resolution 3, Mr B. F. Whitney's Ngatiri 4. All owners-up. Three others, Bugle, Rita, and Ota-io, started. FARMERS' RACE.—Trophies 3gns and 2 gns:—Mr E. Leonard's Craig Dugald (Owner) 1, Mr Blair's Genevieve (Mr T. Hobbs) 2, Mr C. Meyers' Pembroke (Owner) 3.. Two others started. This race lay between the first and second placed, who ran together from the last fence, and Craig Dugald won by a neck only. ROSEBANK STEEPLECHASE Trophy 3gns, presented by Mr B. D. Whitney:—Mr R. Rattray's Seayiew 1, Mr J. W. Freeman's Yacca 2. Owners up. Kailua also competed and finished first, but was disqualified for having come by the wrong course. The i>risses were distributed ,on the ground as usual, with complimentary speeches, and a pleasant meeting was wound up with afternoon tea.
