A SCIENTIFIC LECTURER
TO VISIT TIMARU. A meoting was held in. Hutchison's rooms last evening, of persons favourable .to inviting Mr Joseph MoCabe. a well-known scientific and rationalist lecturer and writer, to give one or two lectures in Timaru. Mr McCabe 23 now making a tour of Australasia, under the auspices of the Rationalist Press Association; he is now in New Zealand, and dates could be arranged i'of Timaru if desired. There were fifteen or sixteen present, Mr A. Beck was voted to the chair, and Mr Harris, who had convened the i«r, acted as secrtary. The chair laii. linking explained that the object was to give Timaru people an opportunity of hearing one of the best scientific lecturers of the day, Mr Harris read some communications he had received [ rrom the committee managing Air „\IV> j Cnbo's New* Zeala.nd tour. -These showed that a local committee must be ! formed to make all necessary preparations and undertake all liabilities, pay j £5 towards the cost of the intereolon- ! )al tour (travelling expenses), and the ! lecturer's hotel expenses in Timaru; | any surplus from lectures to go to the It,.P.A. fund. The £6 was promptly I subscribed; and Mr Beck ■ undertook ito bo Mr McCnhe's host whilst in Tiinaru, for which he was heartily i thanked. A committee of three, witii | power to add to their number, was I appointed to make all other arrangejments necessary, the details of which were sketched out and approved, and I subjects of lectures selected from a list supplied. Those present were confident that the lectures will be largeil.T. attended. Particulars of time and place, etc; will be advertised later.
