A meeting of lawyers who arc lay representatives of tho MethodLst Conference. considered the formalities necessary to secure tho separation of New Zealand from Australia and it was d.cided that it would be necessary to pass a separate Act of Parliament in each Statu -of the Commonwealth. r l here must also be a separate endorsement of this Act at each animal State conference. The process will he elaborate and costly and take much time.
UNION OF THE CHURCHES. Received 10.15 p.m., June 3rd. ADELAIDE. June 3. The Methodist Conference discussed tho report of the committee appointed at last conference to deal with the question of union of the churches. The report stated that delay had been caused through having to await tho answers to questions submitted to tho Lambeth Conference, and it recommended that committees be reappointed on lines similar to those of 190? with a view ot preparation of a more complete basis of union, and to foster generally the spirit of unionism. The committee expressed gratification at the progress made towards securing agreement both as regards doctrine and polity.
Iu the course; of a general discussion, tlie. Rev. Mr Beale, New South Wales, declared that if the union was to embrace, the Anglican Church it was not worth praying for, not worth seeking or having. Let Anglicanism first uirte itself and hecome evangelical. They could not think of union with a church. including on the one hand a romanistie section, and on the other hand a rationalistic section. The committee's report was adopted.
