HUNTING.

MEET AT FAIRYIEW. The meet yesterday was at Mr MaJhias' farm, Fairview at H a.m. The . attendance was not very large as it j ■was not a half-holiday, but a very j good day's sport resulted nevertheless, j Hounds had to be whipped off the first j hare found on Mr Maxiiias' farm after | a short run as she made for a creek ! that horses could -not cross. Another ! hare found on Mr Mathias' farm gave j a good hunt over some rather difficult i country on to Mr Ivey's farm and , back to Mr Mathias' where she was i lost. Three paddocks of Mr Bell's ] were tried unsuccessfully, but on cross- i ihg the road on to Mr Kerr's farm a,, hare was found who gave a very good run across the farm on to the grass -road in front of Mr Kerr's house down which she turned to the right across Otipua road into the Rocky Hundreds. Here hounds checked tor some time. After making several casts the huntsman was successful in striking the line again, hounds carrying it into Mr McAuliffe's plantation. Three couple of hounds, unobserved except by spectators at a distance, got well away with the hare from the opposite side of the plantation, but the remainder of the pack eventually picked up the line which was across Mr O'Donohue's land, his- boundary fence being one that would stop most horses. Leaving Mr Chapman's on the left hounds swung to the- right across Mr O'Connor's on to Mr Stericker's farm, the few remaining followers jumping the boundary fence at the same place where Poplar broke his neck three years ago. Hera- the pack came in touch with the leading hounds •Which were at fault. Slowly they Carried the line across Sutton Road for' another half mile where they ran out of scent. Only ten of the field saw the end of this good run, amongst them being two ladies, Miss Cole and Miss Kelland. Mr L. Radden, who battled along very bravely on a little pony, was also amongst them, and The Skipper, who was very prominent all day. A pleasant break -an the day's sport was lunch, which Mr Mathias had provided at his farm, ahd r needless to say it was very much appreciated. In the afternoon, a hare found on Mr Bennett's property took the field in a left-handed circle on to Mr" Raddon's farm and back again into Mr Bennett's, but scent at this stage seemed to be an unknown quantity, although in the morning it had been fairly good though nothing to boast about. Another hare found on Mr Bennett's land was lost after a short run in his orchard. Soon after jumping from Mr Bennett's on to Mr Stericker's farm, a hare was roused which provided a very good hunt across the farm. Scent was evidently improving as the day shortened, and the pace was fast for two miles or more until some sheep crossed the line. Eventually after slow hunting on to the..Otipua road, hounds could make no more of it. On returning to Mr Stericker's farm a hare, viewed crossing the Adair road, gave another very good run across Mr Stericker's farm on to Mr Rnddon's, circling round close to Mount Horrible road, eventually being lost when hard pressed close to Sutton road. The latter run was a fast one, and a good finish to nn excellent day's sport. Bournedale. a good hunter in his day. died on the morning of the hunt.
