POULTRY SOCIETY.

MONTHLY MEETING. A largely attended and enthusiastic meeting of the Timaru Poultry Society was held in Hutchison's' Tea Rooms last night, the President- (.Mr £-_ it. Bunts) occupying the chair. The principal business was to make arrangements for the annual show on June i'2:h and 29th. Among xhe correspondence- was a letter from the Ashburton Soeiety ;igreemg to -lend poultry pens, anil ;rom the Chri.-tchureh Society agreeing to lend pigeon pens. The Temuka Society enquired whether the Timaru Societv could lend canary cages for their show to be L'tld on June loth and ltitli.—Reply to be sent agreeing to supply 60 ' canary cages for los.

Mr J. J. Wilson wrote regretting that he ivuuld by nimble 10 exhibit, at the Timaru show this year as it was too close to the Rangiora show, which was lii-s main place of exhibition. Two tenders were received for carting in connection with the Timaru show, and that of Mr W. Hall was accepted as being the lowest.

It was decide-.! to have a guessing competition at- the show, Mr A. S. Palmer undertaking to provide a sheep for the purpose.—A hearty vote of :hanks v.-as passed to MY Palmer.

Mr Gsorge Thomson offered to erect ralico signs in conspicuous places about the town, advertising the show.. subject to the consent of the Borough Gotiiirit. Messrs A. E. Ennia sad G. Annear ■were elected members of the sooietv. Mr F. C. Hack, of Christehureh, wrote offering £'i Is to be <kvoted as the society thought best. It was decided to give prize to the best game bird in the show.

Mr A. S. Palmer ottered £1 Is for the best bird in the largest class at the show.—Received with thanks. It was decided to get an estimate of the cost of procuring .50 new tressles, the matter being left to Messrs Ker and Hail. Art union books were distributed to members, and the meeting closed. The prize schedule is now in circulation, and it is as usual a very comT'iete and comprehensive one. all breeders of poultry being fully catered for. A good number of special prizes are offered, among these being tli» Te Mara cup. value £5 ss, presentrd by Mrs G. F. Martin for most points in any one variety cf white Leghorns, black Leghorns. blade Orpingtons, black Minorofis, or Silver Wyandottes. Substantial prizes are offered throughout, and entries close on June 11th. at 9 p.m.
