Sir Joseph was entertained, to-night at a banquet by the Mayor and borough councillors. He announced that a one day service would be arranged for by the Government between tho oast and west coasts within live or si:: months, and that the railway to tho Otira tunnel from the Christchuieh side would he finished before the contractors completed tho work of piercing the hole in the hill. Sir Joseph left for Greymouth after the banquet.
