The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 4.095.000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,900,000 quarters. The Atlantic shipments for the week total 278,000 quarters, and the Pacific 15,000 quarters. The total shipments to Europe this week amount to 1,240,000 quarters including 129,000 quarters from Argentine, 580.000 quarters from Russia, 76.000 quarters from India, and 52,000 quarters from Australasia.

Mr Lie-lit, the sugar expert, estimates that- the production lias decreased by 204,000 tons. The prespects of the season are unchanged.

At the half-yearly meeting of tiie Bank of Now South Wales, the net profits were shown to he £183,935, which with the undivided balance from last half year gives £229.043 for distribution. A dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, was declared, "£40.000 added to the reserve, £SOOO to the officers' provident fund, and £49,643 carried forward. Tho chairman stated that the past year had been a good one for Australasia. The export trade had shown great activity, and the import trade had not shown any undue expansion but evenly kept pace with requirements. In New Zealand the tendency to nutation to which reference was made last year had been checked, and tho position, which had much improved, gave no cause for any anxiety. The colony was prosperous, and the hank's business had been conducted on reasonably conservative lines. MELBOURNE, May 24. The wheat market is very weak. Flour was reduced 10s per ton today, and is now quoted at £8 10s.
