NEXT WEEK. The Timaru Floral and Horticultural Society will hold their animal autumn show next Thursday and Friday in the Canterbury Fanners' wool store (kindly lent lor the occasion) when products of the soil from Christchurch to Dunedin will be displayed for exhibition. Very complete arrangements hava been made to show all the exhibits off to the fullest advantage, and to distinguish one exhibit from the next a thill" strip of coloured paper will be used ao that exhibitors using their schedule can follow the exhibits frotn first to last. The chief attractions will be the competition for the Gibson memorial cup. Judging by specimens already shown tho sweet pea collection will surpass anything ever shown as tho very latest varieties have been procured by growers. The hardy cut flower cup, the gift of the Vice-Pre-sidents and members of the committee, will open up the first competition for a collection of hardy cut flowers. The Murdley shield, open to all school gardens in the district, is bringing out six entries, and the. committee to meet with tho growing space required by the various schools have decided on a, special stand for the exhibits. About 600 cubic feet of space frill be taken up with this exhibit and the schoolmasters have worked hard with the children to produce excellent qualities of fluwers, fruit and vegetables. Some of the schools are also competing in the open classes.
