TIMARU GOLF CLUB.

ANN UAL AIEETiN G. The annual meeting of the Tiniaru Golf Club was held last evening, Mr M. J. Knubley, presiding over a rather small attendance of sixteen members out of 90 odd on the roll. Apologies were made for two absent members. The small attendance may be accepted as a testimony to the content of members with the past year's managemen. The outgoing committee's report and balance-sheet had been printed and distributed, and were taken as read. The president made some comments on the report, and we combine aim condense the two together. Attention was drawn to the zeal displayed by the ground committee in their care of the links and greens; and mention made of improvements, by the erection of a fence about the pavilion, and the making of a new green at a cost of £6, which it was proposed should take the place of the present "home "Teen, the latter being devoted to practice The finance had been strengthened by increase of the subscription from £2. 2s to £2 12s 6d and the total receipts had been 13s 6d, aaainst £217 16s last year Included in the total were items of f-59 15s from the Ladies' Club and £l3 13s donations from thirteen life members. The club began the year with an overdraft of £146 15s, and this had been reduced to .CUb .j>. but demands for improvements had precluded the hoped for reduction of the mortgage debt being effected. The expenditure" which had very nearly equalled the total income, had resulted in various permanent imnrovcmonts, some very necessary repairs to fences (which ought to have been taken in hand two or three years ago) ~i»l the purchase of a h"vso. the amount received for grazing had been disappointing, owing to the abundance of feed this year. The membership bad slightly increased, being ao. against 92 last year; but further, and considerable increase was a desideratum. In foreign matches the club had done well, winning twelve oirt ot fifteen played, a very creditable record The club matches had been well contested too. and thanks were accorded to the donors of the prizes offered especially to Mr Perry for a uulor challenge cup (won by M. Seymour, who won other pmos also . The president said that the incoming committee would have to consider the proposal to enlarge the borough, the scheme for which proposed to include that part of the links south of the creek, which includes the pavilion. Whether this would be of advantage 10 the club or not he was not prepared to sav. They might have to pay more rates—though he did not see why they should—but on the other hand they would be able to get water cheaper than if they remained wholly in the county.

Before leaving the chair Mr Kuuhlev paid a high tribute to the services oi" Mr Tonnent as treasurer, and oi Mr Kevell as secretary, and also spoke of the very great assistance the ladies had given the club. Mir C T. Hi. Perry was unanimously elected president and thereupon took the chair. The election of other officers resulted as follows: —Vice-president, Mr \V. li. McLaren; captain, Mr G. Mannering; secretary, Mr Cotterill; treasurer, Mr W. W. * Baxter; committeemen, Messrs Knubloy, Tasker and Seymour ; auditor, Mr Is.. G. Turner.
