At the Supreme Conrt. criminal sessions, before Mr Justice 1 Cooper, 'prisoners were sentenced as follows:—Norman Edward Keals, theft,; breaking and entering, one year's imprisonment, ,on each charge, the .sentences to run concurrently. William Scott and Ernest Hutchinson, breaking, entering and theft, the former-two years' imprisonment, and the latter three years' hard labour. Charles Roltori, criminal offence on a girl under 16 years of ago, eighteen mouths' imprisonment. Nov. 15. Andrew Paulson, a, Russian Finn, was sentenced to two years' hard labour for theft. Archibald McNaiighton, charged with assaulting John Shelly, a publican, and; stealing his wutcii, was fouu'd ' guilty of ■ assault,', but not guilty of robbery. Ho was sentenced to six months''hard labour. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov.. 15. . The Supreme Court criminal sitting opened tins morning. Mis Honour ilr Justice Denniston in charging the grand jury, said the calendar was not long, ,aiiU K 'AV'ith-vtke exception of" two casos not .very serious; 6ven". taking eight cases for sentence. Ho thought the calendar creditable in the law'awiling propensities in the district, There was only one serious ease; and that not of very difficult character. 'This was the charge against Arthur J. W. Roberts that ho murdered Alico Etliel Newman. The case' was of such a nature as' to give the grand jury.!littlo trouble, the. evidence' establisltiiig the fact that' Roberts fired tho shots.
At the "Supreme Co'Urfc to-day, George" Kernard was acquitted on a chargo of ■■ indecent;'fassault.
