WAIMATE NOTES.

(I I 'rum Our Own Correspondent.) The Waimate Cricket Club opened the season on Thursday afternoon, there was a. fair turn out, and some now members (hut old cricketers) proved decided acquisitions. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by Mrs R. Hickman and was much appreciated. There was a. good attendance at the usual meeting of the Ivy Lodge, No. 21, U.A.O. Druids, A.D. Bro. Hutt presiding. The following grand lodge officers were present on their annual visit, and other visitors present were: Bro. Russell (Eastbourne), Bro. Waddel! (Oamaru), and Bro. Bennett (Amberley). After the usual business light refreshments wore provided by Bro. Barford in bis usual liberal stvle. Toasts .were duly honoured, and a pleasant evening was spent with song and story, concluding at midnight with "Airld Lang Syne." The Wahnate Rifles fired a handicap sweepstake mi Thursday afternoon, in which twelve niendiers took part. The light was uncertain, and the scores were not up to the usual average. Corporal Hutt was- the winner with 30, Private TClmslie second with 38. The St. Augustine''; Young Men's Society hold a "winrl-un" social on Thursday night.
