Oct. 22. ■ This morning at 7.:10 the Commercial Jjlotel at- Normanby, a two-storied building of 13 rooms was burnt in the ground and Tliomns Gdindley, a labourer aged .'i.'i, was burnt to death. The remains burnt to cinders, were found among tbo debris. The hotel was owned by Hill and Co., 1 and the licensee is A. .7. Ivimpton. The insurance, amount to £IOOO an tbf building nnd £IOO each on "this stock and furniture. FACTORY DESTROYED. CIIRISTCnURCn, Oct. '22. The Waiinate firebell was -.in Evidence at !' o'clock on. Thursday morning. The cause was a fire in'an outhmi so on Mr W. A. Beckett's property in Shearman street. Tho brigade very promptly answered the call and the (ire was quickly extinguished, very little damage being done.
