ANGLICAN CHURCH.
A CONSTITUTIONAL QUESTION. At the meeting of the Christ-church. Diocesan Synod on Wednesday, Archdeacon Harper moved a series of resolutions to bo remitted to the general synod of the Anglican Churcli next January, affirming the Church in. New Zealand "inherently possesses tlie fullest rights of self-government," and '.hat. the general synod should promote legislation required to safeguard certain interests should that affirmation be practically accepted and acted upon. In his explanatory remarks the Archdeacon pointed out that while fhe churcli was bound hand and foot by its constitution to the United Church of England and Ireland, it was really an independent church, yet was tied down in important matters by constitution, so that it could not exercise the powers it possessed. The church had got on fairly well, but could not expect to continue to do so much longer. The first or affirmation motion was supported by Eev. L. C. Brady, and this, and two of the three consequent or directive motions were carried, the discussion on the fourth not being completed on Wednesday.
