THE RABBIT INDUSTRY
Per Press Association, ..... . ■.. DUNEDIN, Sept. 3. The rabbit' industry, during the winter has been remarkable. It is estimated that between six hundred thousand and seven hundred thousand skins were purchased weekly in Duriedin. That quantity represents ft monetary value close on £4OOO. For prime doe skins, as much as 2s lOd per pound has been paid. There has also been a slight jncreaso in the of lower quality skins, and" this increase in price has affecred prejudically the export of rabbity since trappers get better prices for dkins. This season the supply of skiiis has enormous!v incrcacd, which is due'more to the "better priccs_ than' an increase 'in rabbits. It is- estimated that practical rabbiters earned over £1 daily. Although the industry is a'continuous one now, there is a falling off as the soring, ad'Vahces. '•/ : .''''" ' •'
