BOWLING.
CHRISTMAS TOCRXAMEXT. A well attended meeting of members of the Timarn and Kia Toa Howling Clubs was held in the .Foresters' Hall last evening, to consider the advisability of holding a tournament at Christmas. Mr Gillies, president of the centre, presided, and explained the position and recapitulated the re- | suit of the meeting of the delegates 1 from the Timarn and Kia. Toa Clubs, held 011 the ICth inst. That meeting sent forward the following recommendations; —That- the Centre be requested to obtain-the sanction of the .New Zealand Bowting Association's Council to hold the proposed tourney; that the sub-committee consider the number of howlers in Smith Canterbury fully warrants the holding of a tourney; that the South Canterbury Centre can take no responsibility financially for the proposed tourney; that the Centre hand the management of the tourney to a committee of the Timarn Clubs; the estimated expenses of the tourney would be about £OS. This would necessitate an entry of 30 rinks at £l, and 60 doubles at- 10s, butseeing the advantage to the public of so much money being brought into the. town, the public should he asked to contribute prizes. In order to induce as" many players as possible to come the prizes would be very liberal. After considerable discussion it was decided to hold an open tournament at Christmas. A committee consisting of Messrs Fergusson, Priest. Yoiinc, Wade, Watson, Jlust. Scaley. Bristol, I.illico, Mee, Evans and Gillies .was elected to make the necessary arrangements for the tournament and will hold their lirst meeting at Mr Orwin's office on Wednesday.
