BOWLING.

•- —■» v. —- THE IvIA. TOA CLUB. The second annual meeting of the Kia Toa Bowling Club was held in the Technical School last .night when there was a. good attendance and the presi-. dent, Mr Bristol, occupied the chair. The annual report presented by the , secretary (Mr J. E. Gillies) stated that of some 57 ongirial'members about 15 retired at the beginning of the year, j these being members for the most part, who had joiriecTsimply to give the club a start. Considerable enthusiasm had l been, shown in getting new members' i and the . roll now showed . 74. It-was I thought that the club will start the coming season -with a roll ,of 58 or 60 members. It;was not considered- that any further improvements would be' necessary until - the indebtedness had been substantially reduced. The caretaker (Mr Hill) had given every satisfaction, • and under Mr Sealey's able supervision the green had played splendidly. The matches played, during the year were detailed, and it was said that, though the results might be considered somewhat depressing, the club was: by no , means : annihilated. - The players had , proved themselves true, sportsmen and possessed of plenty of pluck. ' The club had had the honour of providing a rink to play in the i inter-centre match, North v. South I Canterbury. ■ ■■■ Thanks • were ■ due to Messrs . Adams, Ltd;, (per Mr Good-'' win) : and the Westport Coal Company for prizes last ydar. For the coming season Messrs Lillico and Costello had offered trophies value £§ 2s and • £1 Is respectively, and the T. and G. Mutual Insurance Company (per Mr Coe) also offered 1 a prize. Hearty thanks were recorded, to all who had in any. way: assisted 'the club. The balance-sheet .-.showed, receipts £152 7s sd; expenditure—Paid off property -find erection of pavilion,■■■ etc., £159 16s 3d; working expenses £9B Is 2d; assete £(sß, and liabilities £494. ' The receipts since the inception of the club amounted to £272; and the green formation, buildings, and part payment of: land had cost £566.

_ The. president ill proposing the! adoption of the report, arid balance-sheet spoke very encouragingly of the position in which the clul) now found itself —a position' of which they might, well be proud and he knew of no other club that had attained, such success in so short a time. Mr Irvine seconded the motion whichwas carried unanimously. ' In reply to Mr Howard, Mr Gillies said that, the executive had offered for sale at £l4O the> balance of their section fronting on Hassall street, and there was a probability of it beintc sold.

Mr Grant found fault with, the ours adopted by the club which.-'he described as . "deadly," and he suggested that the colours should be changed to something decent. —These remarks were cordially endorsed by a, number of those present. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr Bristol (unanimously re-elected); Vice-Presidents, Messrs J. Lillico, J. McCahon, E. Costello, arid J. Irvine; Secretary, Mr J. L. Gillies; Assistant-Secretary, Mr R. Grant; Treasurer, Mr D. G. Watson; Auditor, Mr J. W. Holdgate; Committee, Messrs Sealey, Irwin, Anderson, Dunn, Porter, South, Miller, Bust, Palliser, and Watts. Sub-committe«; were also elected. Messrs • Sealey and Gillies were elected delegates to the centre. .

It was decided to hold an annual social on September next, a committee being elected to males the necessary arrangments. There was a proposal to hold a '.smoke concert and after discussing the matter for half an hour, the decision to hold a social was rescinded, and it was then decided not to hold anything in the nature of a social this rear.

Mr T. D. Young suggested that a tournament should be held in Timaru next Christmas. It would be t-lie means of bringing a considerable number of visitors to Timaru.—Mr Gillie.s said the difficulty was as to wh'o would undertake the work. He proposed that Messrs Sealey and Bust be a. committee to consider the matter in conference with delegates from the Timaru Bowling Club. —Mr Young and Mr Sealey said the matter should-be referred tO/the centre, and it was decided that this bo done. On the motion of Mr Radcliffo n hearty vote of thanks was passed to all

the officials of the past year for' their services to the.club.. , Twelve new members were proposed and the meeting closed.
