FACES DEATH FOR HIS MATE. Press A«sociatibri-By Telegraph-Copyright . . . . MELBOURNE, July 17. A sensational, accident occurred in the Consolidated mine, Bendigo, and a heroic act was witnessed. Three miners named Davis, Darcey and Allen were working at sinking a shaft. Two shots had been put in, and the men ascended to the flat above. As Allen reached the flat he missed his iooting and fell to the bottom. Instantly Davis rushed down the ladder, despite the fact that the charges were due to explode any moment. He found Allen and dragged him about five feet when the first charge exploded. The debris, however, carried in the opposite direction. He then endeavoured to get in' a safe pjace for the second explosion. When the latter occurred relief was...sent..down." Both men were found alive. Allen had a broken leg, but both were unhurt by the blast.
