Hansford and Trumper brought tho total to 48 before tho' Victorian, whohad batted Co minute's for 19, got his leg in front. When Noble and Macartney were associated runs camo at' a fair pace, the wicket becoming easier. Macartney was beaten by a, good break ball.—7 for 99. Carter livened the game by vigorous cricket, and' was severe on Lees, bringing about a change •in the bowling. Ho gavo a hard chance in the slips, and was bowled a couple of balls later.—B for 129. Noblo batted well, And scored eight in one over of? Kirk. Cotter was stumped first ball.—9 for 137. Nohle showed grand defence, and, played superb, chanceless cricket. Ho was 130 minutes at the wickets. Smithi bowled splendidly. The light got bad after Surrey began their innings.
