Serious riots took place at Pittsburg in connection with a strike of the Pressed Steel Ca"r Company's employees. One hundred persons were injured by the police pitols and the strikers' missies. REDUCTION IN WAGES. Received 9.20 p.m.,"" July 16th. LONDON, July 16. Tho coal-miners in the federated districts of England and Wales ask for a reduction of 5 per cent, in wages. The Conciliation Board will meet to consider the-request. COMPENSATION CASE.. Per Press Assooiatioa, CHRISTCHURCH, July 16. At tho Arbitration Court to-day, Mr Justice Sim delivered judgment in tho compensation case, F. Powell v. Gordon. Holmes. The Court. found that there was no reason, to accept v tho claimant's version of tho matter in preference to that of the respondent. Tho onus of proving that tho claim had been made, lay with the claimant,"who had failed to satisfy the Court that a claim had been mado within the meaning of tho statute. The application was dismissed, and claimant ordered to pay respondent's costs, five guineas with disbursements. Tho witnesses' expenses would bo ■: fixed : by the clerk of awards. . . !
