Constable prosecuted in each case, ana in tne latter case proved having notified defendant of tne need lor a license whicli had not been procured. At a meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union at Waimate, there was a good attendance. Miss Powell (organiser) gave a helpful address on temperance matters. A drawing room meeting is to bo held at Mrs R. Meredith's to-day, at which. Miss Powell delivers an address and will also canvass the district in order to extend the union's work locally. v The Rev. J. Blight (who was formerly minister of the Wesleyan Church, Waimate, and is now stationed at the Tliames) is, with Mrs Blight, visiting Waimate at present. Mr Blight has for some time been in ill-health, and is having the change on that account. A meeting to consider tho advisability of recommencing band of hope meetings in Waimate, decided that the Sunday school authorities be approached with a proposal for temperance addresses once a month. Mr G. Dash will give tho first address, if it is decided to adopt tliis course. An alteration has been made in the matter of a successor to Mr Drake as postmaster at Waimate. Mr McDermott, who was formerly announced will not return to the position, whicli will be filled by Mr AV. J. Walsh. Tho St. Augustine's Young Men's Society. Waimate, at their weekly meeting formed a minstrel troupe. Fourteen members were enrolled and rehearsals are to start early. Twelve new members joined tho society. A tri-weekly mail service is to be established from Waimate to Hook, and the post office is to ho called Waiarari. Tenders are being called for to ■ornvide the service at a reasonable cost Telephonic connection with the Hook has now been made.
