CIVIL CASES

Judgment m the following civil cases was given as follows: — Commissioner of Taxes v. W. Connolly, claim for £4 5s Id. Judgment by default for the amount claimed and costs 9s.

Tiie same v. S. Hanson, claim for Ids sd; judgment by default for the amount claimed.

The same v. T. Driscoll, claim for 2s 6t1.; judgment by default for the amount claimed and costs 10s. Donald Munro v. H. G. Ellis, claim for £2O for alleged broach of contract £5 for rent, anil £6 for alleged damage to land. Mr J. \V. White appeared for plaintiff and Mr W. Raymond for defendant. This is a case in which plamtitf claims the sums , mentioned in that he alleged that defendant broke the terms oi a lease made between the parties, by not keeping hedges in order on a farm leased by him from the plaintiff. The alleged damage to the land is said to have been done by defendant carting in the paddock whilst it was in a wet condition. As the summons had been only served on the defendant on Saturday and sufficient time had not been given him to get his witnesses together, the ease was adjourned for a fortnight, with the consent of both parties and without costs to the defendant. Mr Keddie, Government Inspector, appeared against H. B. Kirk, who was charged with a breach of the engine drivers award in that he paid a qualified driver Is Id per hour instead of Is 3d. Mr Keddie said he did not press for a penalty as Mr Kirk had paid up all arrears and was now paying the award rate. The defendant was fined 10s without costs.
