SHEARERS' UNION.

AND DOMESTIC SERVANTS. To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —I notice ;n the "Herald" a resolution passed by the Shearers' Union, condemning the member lor liniaru for presenting a petition to Parliament in favour of obtaining more domestic servants. I thought that Mr Craigie represented all sections of the community, but the Union thinks that he should only represent one section. It Las been shown that many wives have lost- health, and in some cases have died, through not being able to obtain -heli),- but that fact does "not influence the Shearers' Unicu, so 1 wish to draw attention to another fact, that in many cases farmers woidd give work to more men if help could be obtained for the house, so on account of not having domestic servants many men are idle.—l am, etc., - A SUBSCRIBE!*. The recent resolution passed at the Shearers' Union meeting adrersely criticising Mr J. Craigie, M.P., for presenting a petition praying for thrf free importation of domestic la'oour to tin- House, seams to be s.nytliing but a representative opinion of the Union. - Speaking to a reporter yesterday a member of the Union said that he was confident that the resolution only expressed the ideas of a very small minority of the members, and personally he was of the opinion that such a small meeting (only seven or eight were present) had no right to pass any important resolution and com-, mit the Union to a course that might, be opposed to the opinions of the majority. _^____^^^^____
