DUNEDIN, June 29
The Dunedin South Licensing Committee to-day granted two . applications for bottle licenses. These were the onlj' applications, and were previously adjourned to await the decision of the Supreme Court. As to the city bottle licenses, in one case where an applicant keeps his shop open till 10 p.m., the committee asked for an understanding that the shop be closed at 6 p.m., the committee being of opinion that liquor was sold in the evening to a class of customers to which they thought it should not be sold.
Mr Solomon questioned the authority of the committee on this point, and pointed out that it was asking more than was' provided by legislation. As a compromise, the applicant agreed to close at 8 p.m. on weeK days and 9 p.m. on Saturdays. Eventually the committee left it in the hands of the applicant after reiterating the opinion expressed above.
