As showing the mildness of the aut'tunii and early winter in the Mackenzie County, it is worthy of record that some apple trees in the Silverstreani district na T e blossomed and borne fruit quite reunitly. The fruit is a fair size and veil formed. _ It will not ripen, but vould be suitable for culinary preparations. Measles arc rite Just now in Fairlie. The school uis been shut for three weeks for tie mid-w-iuter holidays, an extra we«k haviiig been allowed for the endemic to run its course. The sickniss has little ways all its own. Last year several members of a family residing in the district took measles. One child aid not catch them, aid in order to have the business over md done with, the parents put the chid in the same bed as several of those who were recovering. The chile escaped contagion, and this year it look the sickness almost as soon as measles appeared in the district. Although the vcather at the end of last week was threatening at Fairlie, nothing worth complaining about came of it. Fin». mild weather held till Thursday, when a bitterly cold
nor' west wind blew. Fririav wns dull, and tlw. clouds looked like'snow. A few drots of rain fol. and then after nightfall the sky cleared. The day was very raw, one of the coldest of the season. Saturday was cloudy and threatening, and again a few drops of rain fell, turning into a drizzle at nighfe. Sunday afternoon saw a clearance in the sky, the sun shining out brilliantly. The night set in with a promise of frost. The winter is passing over splendidly, and every one, especially farmers, arc congratulating themselves over the fact.
