PRESENTATION.
THE TELEPHONE ENGINEER. A pleasant function took place in the post .office on Thursday evening, when ;i presentation was made to Mr E. A. ■Shrimpton, assistant telegraph engineer for Canterbury, who has been promoted to a higher position in the Auckland district. - There was, a large attendance of officers from the various departments of the service. The presentation, which consisted of a handsome travelling-bag and rug, was made by Mr Dommett, the. oflicer in charge, who expressed the regret all felt at the recipient's departure, but everyone was pleased to hear of Mr Shrimpton \s well-deserved pronation, which had been earned through ability and perseverance. Over twenty year's ago Mr Shrimpton joined the service as a telegraph messenger in Timaru, and now lie had just completed the superintendence of the installation of a new telephone service, that reflected the greatest credit upon his technical knowledge ami skill) the exchange being one of the finest south of the line. Mr Shrimpton suitably responded to the several' complimentary speeches that were made and suitably acknowledged the gift and the good wishes that accompanied it.
