Mr McCaskill stated that since his arrival in Fairlie ho had found no truer sport or more enthusiastic worker than Mr Hosking. He had worked with him in connection ■with several local institutions, and found that he put his heart into any work that he took in hand. When he took over the position of secretary to the Fairlie Football Club three years ago there was a debit balance of *£lo, now there was a credit balance of £25. This success was to a large measure due to the sports gatherings annually organised by Mr Hosking, under" the auspices of the Football Club. Mr McCaskill then presented him with a beautiful gold-mounted pendant, suitably inscribed, from the members _of the local Football Club. Mr Hosking was received with enthusiastic cheers. He stated that he had'always enjoyed the work he had done for the Club. He believed that it was every man's duty to do his level best whenever,he took up any work, and he had tried to dn liis duty towards the Football Club. When he came to Fairlie there was no sports meetiug held in the township, and with the assistance of a few enthusiasts, especially their chairman. Mr Beaton, he had done his best to supply the want. The success that had attended their efforts only served to show what possibilities there were for undertaking a sports gathering on a much "larger scale. He sincerely thanked the members for the presentation they had made, .and trusted that continued success would attend the Fairlie Football Club. The remainder of the evening was devoted to the honouring of numerous toasts, intersprrsi.-d with songs by those present, and an enjoyable gathering was brought to a close shortly before midnight.
