THE P.O. SAVINGS BANK.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —It seems to me that the public have good cause for complaint as to the manner in which they are treated when they have the smallest items of business to transact with the above institution. If a person wishes to purchase even a postal note, costing Is or Is 6d, on a Saturday morning, he may consider himself fortunate if he has not to wait a quarter of an hour or twenty minutes before he can be served. Surely some more up-to-date method of doing business could lie devised by the Department. Would it not be a- very simple matter to have postal notes sold at the counter where postage stamps are sold? If that cannot be done, the' gentleman in charge of the P.O. Savings Bank counter might certainly be given some assistance during the busy, hours on Saturday mornings; ,or arrangements might he made for keeping the office open during the afternoon. I am casting no reflection on the officer in charge of this work, who I consider does wonders under very tryins circumstances, hut it is not fair either to him or the public to carry on this important branch as it is at present carried on in the Timaru office. I am. etc., POSTAL NOTE.
