A WORD OF EXPLANATION.
To the Editor of the " Timaru Herald:" >'i' ; —I have read with interest j-oiir very full report . of one side of'the: ease of the dispute between the secretary of the Harbour Board and myself,- and also your sub-leader. As the n-mainder of the dispute was taken in committee 1 am not at lib-' erty to divulge what took place, but merely state that the friction between the secretary and myself did not arise out of the question of dues that would be payable if the " Elsa" made way for the •• Langton Grange." Had I known when agreeing to a committee being set up to enquire into the case, that one side of the case would be published and the other not, I should never have agreed to the dispute being heard in committee.—Yours faithful Iv. D. C. TURNBFLL. '
