Much interest is taken in tlio race between Thoroughgood and Pearcc for the sculling championship of Australia, which, takes place to-day. I?oth men are in good form. Received 4.30 p.m., May '3oth. SYDNEY, May 30.
Thoroughgood won the choice of positions. Pearce went ahead ill tlio first few strokes. At a mile and a quarter Thoroughgood pulled up on his oppouent, but could not head him, Pearce going away again, pulling a faster stroke. Thoroughgood made desperate efforts to overhaul his opponent, but Pearce responded magnificently every time, and easily hold his opponent to the finish. Time, 21 miu 19sec.
