THE FEDERAL NAVY. MELBOURNE, May 20. The nine artificers selected in the Commonwealth to take part in the construction of the Australian destroyers have sailed for London. FAMOUS MINER'S DEATH. Mr Francis. "Webster, famous as the " Welcome Nugget," died in the Ballarat benevolent asylum, aged 74 years. He returned to Ballarat three years ago, poor and in ill-health, and was compelled to seek the shelter of the asylum. CHAR IT ALBE BEQUESTS. ADELAIDE, May 20. Several valuable city properties in the Martin estate have teen sold for £56,000, and under the terms of the will the Adelaide hospital received £21,000, the Children's hospital £lO,000, and private beneficiaries the balance. Received 8.55 p.m., May 20th. GALE AND HEAVY SEAS. SYDNEY, May 20. A stiff south-westerly gale is blowing, with heavy seas. The coastal shipping is sheltering. A further useful rain is falling, aud spreading inland. Received 1 a.m., Mav 21st. STAMPING MACHiNE. A satisfactory demonstration of the automatic stamping machine in use in New Zealand was given at the Chamber of Commerce. The Federal Government intend to adopt the machine. MINISTER RESIGNS. Mr Ashton has resigned as honorary Minister, owing to pressuro of private business.
