A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of A. J- McLaughlin, late stable keeper of Temuka, but now a labourer in Oamaru, was held in the office of the Deputy Official Assignee in Timaru yesterday. Peterson, watchmaker, Christchurcli, £4 10s, Brace, Winde, Blyth and Co., saddlers, Dunedin, £2, Triggs and Denton, saddlers, Christchurcli, £2 3s, A. McMaster (c.o Smithson and Raymond, limaru), £IOO. In a sworn statement to the bankrupt said that he was in the stable keeping business at Temuka foy about 15 months from February, 1907,' until May, 1908. Had no capital when he started. For the first three months he was in business on his o\vn account arid for the last three months he was also alone in the business ; the rest of the time he was in partnership with Angus McMaster. ■ The business was not a paying one, aud sold out on May Ist, 1908, being then insolvent. Could not say how much he was behind, but it was over £IOO. "Went from Temuka to the North Island looking for a job, but could not get one. Was doing nothing from May Ist until September, being unwell for the greater wart of last winter and unable to work Mr McMaster sued him for about £SO about a fortnight ago arid the bailiffs were put in. Bankrupt was then working in Oamaru. Bankrupt had given McMaster two promissory notes for £SO each when he bought out his share of. the business and it was for these that lie now owed him £IOO. Nothing liacf been paid on account of the two promissory notes. Bankrupt said he was a married man and had one child. His only assets wore a few book debts and he could riiake no offer. This was all that could be done and the meeting closed. '
