TEMUKA CATHOLIC CLUB.

The opening function in connection with the above club was held on Tuesday night in the club room, when fully a hundred members attended the gathering. 'Mr C. A. "Winn, president of the Catholic Club, was in the chair, and he was supported by Revs. Father Le Floch and Father Kimbell, Mr Jr. 51. Twomey, and Mr W. Jeffries, president of the Football Club. After the | toasts of the Pope and the King had been- honoured, Mr Winn addressed the gathering and expressed his pleasure at the magnificent attendance which spoke well for the future of the. institution. He thanked them for the honour done in placing him at its head, and promised to leave no . stone; unturned in making the club what it was originally intended to be, namely, a means of. bringing the young meii of the parish together for social and literary entertainment. He traced the club .from its formation to the present time and referred to the reverses it had gone through and yet survived., Reference was made' to the advent of Father Le Floch, who took a great interest in athletic matters, and was deeply interested in the Football Club, just formed, as a branch of their sport. He hoped, that an effort would be made to further the literary side <Sf the club and if this were done the Club would roon become a factor for good in the community. , A number of toasts were honoured, and a programme of music gone through. . , The proceedings wero icntlrusiastic ail*! indicative of & successful run the Club during the coming year. The gathering concluded at 11 P-ra-the singing of " Auld Lang Syne.
