PERSONAL ITEMS.
■ Mr X. D. Cochrance, mining engineer, Dunedin, has accepted a position as mining adviser to tne Government of Fiji. He expects to be absent from the dominion about 12 months. ' Sister Alice, the Plunket nurse of Timaru, has gone north for a few days. Mr V. G. Day, S.M., sat for tno first time at Geraldine on Tuesday, and was cordially welcomed by Mr Barklie on behalf of the legal profession, and by Mr W. A. Sherratt on behalf of the Justices of the Peace of the Geraldine district. An enthusiastic meeting of AVaimate citizens farewelled Mr W. K. Tomlinsou on Tuesday night. Mr Hamilton handed him a purse of sovereigns on behalf of the subscribers and warmly eulogised him as man and bank officer. Messrs Hassali, Mpore, Manchester, Guthrie, A twill, Kelly and Freeman also spoke. Mr Tonihnson said he regretted having to leave and thanked them for their present and kind remarks.
