Rev. W. J. Mayers, Mrs Mayers,. Mr H. Aaron, musical conductor,' and ten boys from the. Uarnado Homes,; arrived at'liinaru from Oamaru'.yesterday.' Mr Mayers, senior deputation secretary, of the famous institutions, .with''his party has now been two months,in NeW/Zealand, has visited all the larger centres in the south, and has been well'pleased with the cordial welcome given .them, and. with the monetary measure of the sympathy felt for' distressed children, the fruit of miserable conditions ofin the Old Country. ,'' Tojmorrcwv Mr'-; Mayers will conduct services" a/fc .the Wesley an Church in the- morning,' at, Chalmers in the evening; vand' I 'after church he will hold a special /service in the Theatre Royal (for- a&ulte onljr). Mr Mayers has a most interesting and inspiring -story to tell, /if "the ; great benevolent work commenced ■•'and car-, ried on for so many years by Dr Barriwrdo. He had a crowded meeting.in the theatre seventeen years ago,, and made a gratifying addition to the funds of the Homes on that occasion. Three meetings at Oamaru this week furnished over £IOO. Mr Mayers has been closely., associated with Dr Barnardo- and' his,.'work' ''for twenty years, and he' wills give' very . v in--teresting accounts,' of, this : .wonderful.' child-rescue enterprise, ■ and impressive pliotq-picjmres of,"'.' the-' Homes and' some.' of their 8000' chil- ■• dren. Mr Mayers visited- New .Zealand in 1892, and had a very successful tour of meetings. He has, brought,with him. ten of the boys from the Homes-who ■ have been musically trained, with: their instructor, Mr H. Aaron. v They, will render a most attractive, programme, of election on handbells, .mandolines, .. cornet, bagpipes, and other -,. instruments.
