The chairman said the meeting iiad been called earlier than usual in order to deal with the question of asphalting whether they should undertake it at once, a good time of year for such work —or should leave it to the new committee. The Board had offered to grant £ for £ up to £ls, and the committee would hare a credit balance of about £2O after paying accounts due. The asphalt would be of great advantage in respect to the cleanliness of the school. The receipts for the year had been £lO4, and the expenditure (including present accounts) £B4 6s. Mrs Stevens had undertaken to take over the cleaning at the end of the month. On visiting the school that day, lie inspected the new infant room, and lie was sorry to say that some of the work in it was disgraceful. The eaves had not been painted ; the doors at the back, apparently made of green wood, had warped and could not be closed and fastened. The attention of the B f "'d should be called to this matter. The architect was attending to the partition in the infant?room, and the carpenter to the ventilation under the older building, and to an experiment on the lighting of the north-west room. The chairman read a statement of areas to be asnhalted (418 c. yards) and an estimate of cost, and it was resolved

During the year they had got some valuable improvements made, and there were others still required, so that if t>iey all came back again,—as he hoped—they would find something to do next year. The school was still growing, and _he anticipated that if the growth continusd it would not be long betore they had to apply for additional accommodaAfessrs Irwin and Doekrill moved avote of thanks to the chairman, and m accenting it, Mr Sealey said it had_ been a nleasure' to act on the committee, with the. best staff in the school that there was under the South Canterbury Board.
