SHIPPING CASUALTIES.
LOSS OF THE FOREST FALLS TTTV. CREW REACH AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 7.. Officers and members, of the crew of the three-masted ship Forest Falls, which, went ashore at Mangonui, 20 miles south of Cape .Maria Van Diemen on February 27th arrived at Auckland this morning by the steamer Chelmsford from Parengarenga. The number all told was 25, but three deserted at Parengarenga. The men . state that their experiences were not of a very trying nature. * Captain J. F. Collins wlien interviewed stated that the vessel was three weeks out from Newcastle. when the New Zealand coast was sighted at daylight on Saturday week. last, but he declined to make any statement as to what took place between that time and the striking, of the land at 9.30 a.m. The crew were able to save most of their personal belongings, but none of the ship's property was recovered. The freight comprised 3127 tons of coal, and this also was lost. 'After camping for a few days in the vicinity of the -wreck all hands went to Parengarenga. The captain was not able to say whether the vessel or her cargo is insured. Members of the crew are reticent as to what occurred prior to and - after the wreck, but certain allege tions of drunkenness are made.
