MEETING OF COUNCIL. - - ±*er Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. The quarterly meeting ot the Council of the Lawn Tennis Association was held last night. THe first quarterly report of the management committee since the annual meeting in October last was presented. It mentioned New Zealand's application to be declared a separate nation for the purpose of the Davies Cup competition had been withheld until further notice and that a protest had been forwarded to the Australian Association against its taking any action with regard to the competiI tion without first consulting New Zealand. The following rules regarding professionalism were agreed to—any person is a professional who accepts a reward in way of a salary, commission or gift other than trophy won in competition or otherwise for playing lawn tennis; any person guilty of professionalism will be disqualified, but mav be reinstated by resolution of the Council. The receipts of the Nelson tournament were £193, and expenditure £l4B. The secretary was instructed to cable to the Tennis Association, asking that New Zealand's application to be made a separate nation be withheld until further notice. The Sykes' ball was adopted as the association's playing ball. It was decided to send a delegate to Sydney to confer with the Australasian Association and arrange a method of working together in connection with the Davis Cup, competitions. INTERPROVINCIAL MATCH. WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. The annual interprovincial tennis match Wellington v. Canterbury was played in Wellington ynterday, and attracted a large gathering of spectators, who were treated to a fine exhibition of tennis. The competitors were in good form and there wore some close games. Wellington won by five matches to four; fifteen sets to nine. Following are .the scores:— Singles Ollivier (Christchurch) beat Swanston (Wellington), 5-6, 6-1, .7-5; Fisher (Wellington) beat.Goss (Christchurch), 6-4, 6-4: Peacock (Wellington) beat Quill (Christchurch), 6-3, 6-4: Kiver (Christchurch) beat Symthe (Wellington) 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; Pearse (Christchurch) beat Brown (Wellington), 6-4, 6-2, 2-6 (third set need not have been played); Bonningtbn Christchurch) bent Younn; (Wellington), 6-5, 3-6, 7-5.
