NAUTICAL ENQUIRY. / Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 26. Mr Kenrick. S.M., with Captains Sundstrum and Forbes, as nautical assessors, sat again to-day to-investi- > gate the circumstances attending ,-tlie » jfcllfcion between the oil launch Maheno and'steamer Matariki, in Otago harbour on January 28th. The evidence of the Matariki's officers'was to the effect that their boat did not leave the wharf for some time, in order to allow the Maheno to clear the basin, but as the latter apparently had twice as much room as required to swing in, they thought it safe in the meantime to swing. The Maiariki was on the bow-line, of which only\ome 10 .feet was out. ; Tbe Maheno suddenly made a bee-line across the basin, and struck her on the port quarter, much to the.surprise of the Matariki's people, who were unaware that anything Was wrong. The evidence of Captain Gordon, an impartial observer to some extent, corroborated these statements. The enquiry stands adjourned to March 18th.
