IMPORTANT: RESULTS. Press Assoeiation-By Telegraph-Copyrigh'.. BERLIN, Feb: 24. Proi'essor Flecker, of Potsda-m, during six years' observations, measured the diurnal oscillations of the solid earth, and considers that they are analogons with the. tides. Mr George Darwin and the Kimberloy .Observatory confirm. Professor Keeker's observations, though the- latter doubt whether the earth's; oscillations are analogous with the tides. Received 12.40 a.m., Feb. 26th. MELBOURNE, Feb. 25. M. Barrachi, the Government Astronomer, referring to Mr Heeker's discovery, said- that. Mr Hecker was at one time, in Australia tiiki'iu; observations in the. Pacific, to determine questions relative to variations ■in gravity. Mr Hecker informed him that the instrument he bad. made had been in position since 1902. and that accurate records of..the minutest variations had been obtained by weans of photography. Mr Bar.rachi added that such discoveries as Mr Heeker's may have a most prof mm tl bearing upon the knowledge of earthquakes, and may pc.ssibly "enable scientists- to anticipate dreadful calamities.
