WAIMATE HOSPITAL BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Waimate Hospital Board was held in the Board's offices yesterday. Present: Mr J. Sinclair, in the chair, Messrs T. Hart, F. "White, F. Saunders, J. Dohrman, Atwjll, and "W. Miller. Nurse A. C. McGinty sent in her resignation, owing to deafness. The resignation was accepted. A communication was received from the Department of Hospital and Charitable Aid stating that Dr Valintine, the Chief Health Officer, could meet the Board about the 6th April.—lt was decided to convene a meeting on tho date named to confer with Dr Valintine.

Miss Elizabeth E. Doherty wrote with reference to the misunderstanding that had taken place, with regard to her supposed withdrawal of her application for the post of matron of the hospital. She stated in her letter that she had never withdrawn the application.—Received. ■ -

Mr Albert W. Bretyke sent in an application for post of gardener to the hospital.—Received. Dr Barclay ' stated that Fletcher, Humphreys <;nd Co. of Ghristehurch, had sent some samples of invalid wine for use in the hospital, and it was decided to write and thank them for their gift. ■ . Mr F. White reported for the visiting committee that there were a quantity of iron bedsteads stored at the hospital that were of no use there, and it was decided that the beds should be sold if possible. Certain alterations were needed to some of the hospital buildings, such as tho men's lavatory, papering in the wards, etc., and these matters were left partly to the committee to attend to and partly until Dr Valmtine had 1 been down on liis tour of inspection, it was decided to purchase a new stove for the kitchen and one or two minor articles.

The medical officer reported that at the date of last return there were six males and six females under treatment. During the month 12 males and four females were admitted, making a total treated of 18 males and 10 females. Ten males and five females were discharged cured, leaving under treatment •eight males and five females. In the outpatients' department there 12 reapplications for medical attention. Some discussion took place regarding the case of an aged female incurable at present in the hospital, and it was decided to allow the woman to remain until Dr Valintine's visit. In the meantime an acount for her maintenance will be rendered to her son. There will be a consultation between the Committee and Dr Barclay with reference to the advisability of obtaining a trained nurse in place of Miss McGinty. Accounts amounting to £135 17s 6d were passed for payment and the Board rose.
