Per Press Association, , WANGANUI, Fob. 24; The annual meeting : of the Press Association was held .to-day, Mr, Knowles being chairman. .It. was 'announced that.a, new agreement had been mado between the Australian Cable Association for five years, and that a, supplementary report- .of: .■ Parliament adapted to the: ease of papers outside cities was now being; .supplied, . and had met with nuuth approval... Mention was made, of the .Daylight Extension Hill, and, newspaper proprietors warned, that any, '-sncLr measure would be, disastrous to,, the: cable service unless a similar scheme,were adopted in Australia. Allusion : was made to' the, heavy .burden imposed ; on evening newspapers by; the. charge>. for Press telegrams,,-'-- which ,- .practically remain the same as'they7:wore, thirty years ago, notwithstanding jthe concessions made to the public The excessive cost of messages is' specially felt by the-smaller papers. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The meeting .strongly endorsed thp complaints „qf the oppressive effects .of tlio present telegraphic Tates, and decided to again urge for a revision. Mr L. F. Blundell was re-elected director representing the;evening papers, and Mr P. Selig was elected; morning paper representative. Rotorua was fixed on as the next , place of meeting. At a subsequent meeting' of directors, Mr» Fenwick was elected- chairman, and Mr Horton deputy-olJairmail." '
