WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Waimate Borough Council met on Tuesday night. Present, the Mayor (Mr JN. Francis), Councillors Jukster, Nicol, Miller, Manchester, Sanders, Hutt, Buckingham and Hunt. Dr Finch wrote approving Of the new by-law relating to health matters. Messrs Luuden and Son. wrote complaining of risk to their refrigerating works through cutting off of water without their being advised. It was decided that all owners of engines who would bo affected should be advised when possble, of cutting off the water at any time. The Waimate Fire Brigade forwarded balance-sheet for the Council's inspection. —Rceeived. An application to transfer a borough lease from Mr J. Anderson was granted. Councillor Inskter was re-elected the Council's representative on the Waimate High School Board. The manager of the Oainaru Woollen Factory Co., thanked the Council for use of Knottingly Park for their picnic, expressed pleasure at the Mayor's visit of reception, and considered the park an ideal resort. Messrs Manchester Bros, forwarded cheque for £5 in settlement for damage to lamp post and claimed the broken post. The offer was accepted and the matter closed. i Messrs J. Hunt and Son wrote re charges for water, and the matter was referred tp the Water Committee with power to act. •Messrs Hamilton and Moore wrote that certain lessees had not signed their leases of borough sections. Re-; v ferred to Finance Committee with pow;er to act. Some discussion took place as to tho Council's position regaining the water sports to be held on Thursday in the public baths, and it was decided to approve of the Water Committee's action in arranging for the sports. The Finance Committee reported agreeing with Christchurch Council m their objection to the Government's action re public bodies' sinking funds. They also advised that the poundkeepct's explanation re the complaint of Mr F. Wills, as to his lefusal to liberate a horse when charges were said to have been offered be sent to Mr Wills. —The report was adopted. The committee to whom the matter was delegated recommended the lopping of certain trees overhanging a. ivublic road, and that the owners be instructed to have this done. This arose on a complaint from the County Council as to the obstruction of view at a corner of a public road. —The re-

The question of securing maps of the Borough was left over: After discussion in committee as to wages of the works staff, it was decided to recommend to the incoming Council the re-organisation of staff with an increase of wages.
