It is understood that in consequence of the improved conditions in the carrying of passengers and mails on the Main Trunk railway, the >Jnion and Northern Steamship Companies contemplate considerable alterations in the running of their steamers between Onehunga and New Plymouth. On Sundays, the Karawa's usual mail for the south amounts to 300 bags and hampers. Yesterday the Rarawa took only 10 bags and 23 hampers. Entries for the New Zealand Marathon race on March sth are incomplete, as some southern clubs posted entries on Saturdav. So far the entries total 36. The funeral of the late Hone Heke took place at Kaikohe yesterday in the presence of a large number of his fel-low-countrymen and residents of the district.
