The second match Australia, against the Rest of Australia opened in fine weather, and with aii excellent wicket. Once set Bardsloy's batting was brilliant and vigorous. He scored off everything, despite numerous changes in the bowling. Rausford and Macartney played lively iind forceful-.cricket. Australia. have lost rive wickets for 217. The scores were-—Macalister, e Whitty, b Saunders 2; Noble; b Kellewny 62; Bardsley," iiot out 180; Rdnsford, c Hopkins, b Gcihrs 75; Gregory, l.b.w. b Whitty 17; Armstrong, c Parker, b Whitty 3; Macartney, not out 65.
OTAGO v. CANTERBURY. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 12. The match, . Otago v. Canterbury,, commenced in fine . weather. The wicket was in good condition, but a, trifle slow at the start. Otago won the toss, and sent Canterbury to the wickets. The, visitors' started badly, and at one stage it; looked as if the total would not reach 100. ■ Eight wickets were down for 58, when Orchard and Bennett became associated, and they soon changed' the complexion of .the game; When Beilnett was disposed of for 28 the score tidod aI; 108, and Orchard and.BoxShall carried it to 206 before the latter was bowled. Both these batsmen played 'freely, Orchard especially giving a fine display. When the score was at 121 Boxshall gave a. chance, which was not accepted, and later on a chance off Orchard was missed. When the stumps were drawn, Otago had, lost five wickets for 50; Hopkins (16) and Watson (13), being tlic only batsmen to make a standi.'*. " ..■:. ,*;' -
